United States Citizenship and Immigration Services announced on May 29, 2007, a final fee structure. The new fee structure is posted at
www.uscis.gov and is effective on
July 30, 2007. Applications or petitions postmarked or otherwise filed on or after that date must include the new fee.
The new fee structure will provide necessary funding for USCIS, strengthen the security and integrity of the immigration system, improve customer service, and modernize business operations for the 21st century. USCIS expects that the revenue from the new fee structure will put processing times for the following applications by the end of fiscal year 2008: I-90 Renew/Replace Permanent Resident Card, I-140 Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker, I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, and N-400 Application for Naturalization. USCIS also expects that the new fee structure will lead to a 20 percent reduction in average application processing times by the end of fiscal year 2009.
